Robin Hood Game and Country Show

Newark October 2012

After picking up the van on Friday, with Trevor Watson as our guide through Newark, we proceeded to the woods to load all the equipment we needed for the weekend’s have a go. Then Derek and I went to our house to load all our camping stuff, along with tipi poles in the back of the van. Once that was done we headed off to the showground, arriving there about 3.30pm.

Soon after we were joined by Mick Dews and Tracy and got our tents set up before it got dark.

Saturday morning was cold misty and miserable, but as more members turned up to help and we got ready for the public it started brightening up, and very soon we were very busy. It turned out to be a decent day weather-wise and lots of people were soon trying out archery for themselves.

On Saturday night we had a great time round the camp fire again; with a few drinks thrown in (well we didn’t need to be up so early on Sunday as everything was already set out).

Sunday turned out to be an even better day than Saturday and we were extremely busy, at one point having a long queue of people waiting to have a go. We could not collect the arrows fast enough. In the end the weekend was a resounding success, and we had 100 more people than last year and the year before, making it our best year yet. The weather was kind to us even though the mornings were a bit chilly, and the rain held off till the end of the show, and we managed to get all the stuff back to the woods and packed away before it got dark, thanks to those members who came back to help unload.

On Monday I could hardly walk and was thoroughly exhausted, but it was great fun, well worth it, and everyone enjoyed it. Can’t wait till next year now.
